For many of us working from home is new and new things can take a while to get used to. We are used to working in the office and then going home, allowing us to leave work at work. But now that many of us find ourselves working where we live. How can we separate work from the rest of our life? I know from my own personal experience that it can be tough but there are a few small steps that you can follow that help to separate the two.

Dress for work

We’ve all heard it before, but it really can make a difference. I’ve found that getting dressed in my work clothes really puts me into work mode and puts it into my mind that the workday has started. It can be just as important to get changed when you’ve finished work, it signals that work is over and its time to relax.

Designate a workspace

It can be tempting to wake up 5 minutes before work starts and spend the day working from your bed. But this isn’t really the best idea, not only can it affect your productivity and posture, but it can also make you associate bed with work and who wants that? Its best to have a separate workspace away from things that you wouldn’t have in the office like your bed or a TV.

Clear your office space

When the workday has finished it can help to put away your office, so it is no longer in sight for the rest of your day. For those of you that have a dedicated room for your office at home you don’t have to worry about this one. It means when you’re relaxing after work you can feel free and switch off from work mode.

It’s so important to create a healthy balance between work and life. From my experiences these small steps have helped me separate my work and home life, what steps do you take to separate the two?
