The power of exercise is widely believed to be both physical and psychological and my personal experience tells me this is true.
Yesterday I met a friend for a socially distanced walk before work. It was -2degrees, the sky was blue, and the sun was coming up - chilly but absolutely beautiful. We walked along the beach enjoying beautiful views across to Wales, the bird life, and a strong sense of wellbeing. 7km later I was back at home full of energy and ready to start my day. Yes, it was an effort to get up early, yes it took discipline to make the plan in the first place, yes, I could have started work early or done some domestic chores. Do I have any regrets? Not one. Is it a habit to cultivate? Definitely. Does keeping healthy make a difference? Yes – to me and to my impact on people around me.
The challenge is to keep doing it, to meet my target of exercising every day. I am keen to hear from everyone who is trying to stay healthy while working from home – any hints and tips from those who manage consistent fresh air and exercise? And to those people like me who are sometimes really dedicated and sometimes not, any ideas of how we can encourage one another?
